Well, this is kinda interesting. Thanks to
David Lauff that saw Futurama on MTV today. According to the
MTV schedule, you will be able to see
2 Futurama episodes from Monday to Friday in the
4:00 pm and 4:30 pm time slots (Futurama started airing on MTV this Monday, June 16, 2009).
Futurama is also
still airing on Comedy Central from Monday to Friday in different slots each day (check the full
Futurama on Comedy Central schedule) and the slots of course, do not mix with the ones of MTV.
Now, let's see some facts:
- Viacom owns MTV and Comedy Central, so Futurama can be on both channels (perhaps part of the negotiation with FOX)
- Futurama will get more exposure, making it more popular, the kind of promotion that the series really deserves
- More time slots and more channels means new fans will appear in order to receive the new Futurama Season 6 in 2010
- Some of the Comedy Central series do appear on MTV in other countries or regions (For example, South Park appears on MTV Latin America, because there's no Comedy Central over here)
- Perhaps they are just filling an empty slot for the moment.. but Futurama is alive fellows.
So, I think is an interesting move from Viacom and FOX (because Viacom is doing what FOX was supossed to do back in 1999-2003, promote the show a lot more). Even when I know many people that don't watch MTV a lot (including me) you have to understand that Futurama on MTV is better than Futurama nowhere. So, if you can watch Futurama on both channels, do it, and spread the word!
UPDATE - August 4, 2009 @ 18H29
Futurama aired on MTV just for a couple of weeks, apparently to fill up a empty slot..
